University of Abuja Partners with NASPRI for Capacity Building

The University of Abuja has announced a key partnership with the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) to deliver specialized training in Electronic Public Relations (E-PR) and Media Operations. This initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of personnel within the Information Units of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Aisha Sani Maikudi, a noted Professor of International Law, made the announcement during a meeting with Lieutenant Colonel Adamu Ngulde, the Acting Commandant of NASPRI, at the VC’s Conference Room. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration, Professor Philip Afaha, represented the Vice Chancellor and warmly welcomed the NASPRI delegation.

Professor Afaha praised the Directorate of Army Public Relations for its timely updates on military activities and underscored the importance of informing both Nigerians and the international community. He commended NASPRI for its initiative to pursue advanced knowledge in E-PR and Media Operations, stressing that the Military must remain proactive against media-related threats. “A country’s last line of defense is its Military,” he remarked.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor also expressed the University’s readiness to collaborate with NASPRI in providing training programs on modern Public Relations practices. He highlighted the resources available to NASPRI, including access to the University’s Digital Library, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, and expert faculty for research, workshops, and seminars.

During his visit, Lt. Col. Ngulde aimed to familiarize himself with the University following NASPRI’s recent relocation from Bonny Cantonment to Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Giri, Abuja, on November 6, 2023. He emphasized the value of leveraging the University’s faculty expertise to enhance the education of Armed Forces personnel. The meeting concluded with a photo session and the presentation of a commemorative plaque, symbolizing the new partnership between the two institutions. This collaboration is poised to strengthen the skills and knowledge of military personnel, equipping them to effectively navigate the evolving media and public relations landscape.
