In light of the ongoing local government elections in Rivers State, former President Goodluck Jonathan has issued a stern warning to political actors, urging them to consider the broader implications of their actions on national security. Jonathan expressed grave concern over recent political developments in the state, calling on all stakeholders to uphold the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
The former President described the political crisis in Rivers State as a serious threat to democracy and emphasized the importance of conducting elections in a peaceful and transparent manner. “Elections are the cornerstone of democracy because they are the primary source of legitimacy. This process renews the faith of citizens in their country as it affords them the opportunity to have a say on who governs them,” Jonathan stated.
