Diplomacy: Senator Ned Nwoko Meets Chief of Defense Staff, Secures The Release Of Detained Monarch Over Okuama killings
According to the information reaching us from the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Army, on Friday, released Prince Clement Ikolo Ogenerukevwe, the monarch declared wanted over the killing of 17 military personnel in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. Spokesman of the Nigerian Army Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, specifically said although the army has not exonerated anybody regarding the incident, it decided to release the monarch after the intervention of highly-placed personalities in the society and a painstaking review.
Recall that, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district, early this week held a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, to discuss the release of the traditional ruler of Ewu-Urhobo kingdom.
The monarch, His Royal Majesty, Clement Oghenerukevwe Ikolo, Urhukpe 1, was detained following the killing of 17 soldiers during a peace mission in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. Senator Nwoko, accompanied by two other senators from Delta, appealed for the release of the traditional ruler, emphasizing that his continued detention could escalate tensions within Delta.
He also addressed other issues, including the Onicha-Olona community incident where an illegal arms factory was discovered, and the need to support indigenous technologists and the technology sector. The military has initiated a panel of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the soldiers’ killing in Okuama community.
