Operation LAKE SANITY II: Troops Neutralise 140 Terrorists, Arrest 57 ISWAP Suspects, while 176 Terrorists Surrender To MNJTF

Exclusive News: Progress Update on Operation LAKE SANITY II

Maiduguri, 4 June 2024 – Today, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), held an international press conference to provide a comprehensive update on the progress of Operation LAKE SANITY II. Launched on 23 April 2024, this operation sees the combined efforts of troops from Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria, aiming to eradicate terrorist activities in the Lake Chad region.

Significant Progress in Key Areas
Over the past month, the MNJTF has achieved substantial successes. Our dedicated troops have cleared critical locations including Doron Naira, Zanari, and Bagadaza, which were key terrorist strongholds. Despite the challenges, the operation has seen the surrender of 176 terrorists and the arrest of 57 individuals involved in terrorist activities.

Casualties and Sacrifices
It is with a heavy heart that we report 6 casualties among the multinational troops since the commencement of Operation LAKE SANITY II. Major General Ali extended his deepest condolences and prayers for the eternal rest of the fallen heroes and for the quick recovery of the injured. Their bravery and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Arms and Ammunition Recovery
The operation has led to the recovery of significant caches of armaments. Troops have seized 796 rounds of ammunition, one PKM machine gun, 5 AK-47 rifles, 2 motorcycles, and 8 magazines, along with various other arms, ammunition, and logistics support items.

Effective Air Interdictions
Operation LAKE SANITY II’s air interdictions have been notably effective, conducted by the national air forces of Chad, Nigeria, and Cameroon. These aerial operations have destroyed crucial terrorist logistic bases and staging areas, particularly around Tumbum Fulani. Over 140 terrorists were neutralized during these air strikes, severely crippling their operational capabilities.

Acknowledgements and Support
Major General Ali praised the dedication and commitment of the troops, highlighting the critical advancements made toward restoring peace and stability in the region. He expressed deep appreciation for the Chiefs of Defence Staff from all contributing countries and reaffirmed MNJTF’s commitment to creating a safe and secure environment in the Lake Chad areas affected by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.

The General also acknowledged the support of national operations such as Operation EMERGENCE 4 in Cameroon, Operation HADIN KAI in Nigeria, and the Chadian national operations. These operations have played a crucial role as a blocking force for Operation LAKE SANITY II.
