NSA Describes Cyberspace as Fifth Domain of Warfare, Lauds CSEAN’s Advocacies

Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd.), the National Security Adviser, has described cyberspace as the fifth domain of warfare, commending the Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN) for advocating collective responsibility to tackle the menace.

The NSA made this known at the Cyber Secure Nigeria conference 2021 organised by the association with the theme: “The Future of Cyber Security in Nigeria’s Digital Transformation”.

Monguno who was represented by Brigadier General Samad Akisode, Director of Communications, Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), said: “So long we have decided and agreed to embrace the sophistication of technology, we must be ready to equally embrace the sophistication of the risks, vulnerabilities and threats that comes with it.

“Therefore, it is important we remain resolute to fight this battle to ensure our cyberspace remains safe. I wish to remind all that security is not one man’s business but it is a dynamic playground that requires the whole of government and society approach.

Speaking on the Cyber Secure Nigeria Conference 2021, he said this is timely, when the Federal Government is galvanizing efforts to create awareness on the implementation of the NCPS 2021 and October which is coincidentally Cybersecurity Month.

According to him, “Furthermore, the Theme which is the Future of Cybersecurity in Nigeria’s Digital Transformation is also apt when Nigeria, as well as other countries of the world, have embraced the new digital innovation and technology.

“I would like to appreciate CSEAN for its efforts as well as contributions to national cybersecurity programmes, CSEAN is employed it to sustain the tempo and could continue to do more in areas of advocacy, capacity building and development of homegrown solutions.

“The Office will continue to give you the necessary support as appropriate and encourages stakeholders to cooperate, collaborate, synergies and share information to enhance our capacity for a more secured cyberspace.

“On this note, on behalf of the National Security Adviser, I want to commend the efforts of the organizers of this event as well as the sponsors and encourage everyone to use the opportunity of the Conference to network and interact with each other in the Cybersecurity Ecosystem.

The NSA also noted that the country is currently witnessing a digital transformation to enhance our National Development. He said: “This transformation is a vital priority for professional bodies and private sector because of the enormous benefits which include innovation, ease of doing business, facilitate communication and information sharing, enhanced synergy amongst stakeholders, facilitate economic and national development amongst others.

“It is pertinent to note that digital transformation in the private sector is no longer about innovation but must be considered as a culture because of the exponential rates of accepting technology and its dynamism.

“Furthermore, the professional body is also bound to experience improved platforms for capacity building, awareness and digital literacy with stakeholders able to enhance their skills, with a common goal to create a more engaging and effective process.”
