NADCEL2024: Former COAS Buratai Lauds Successors for Innovations and Continuity in Nigerian Army

Tasks Troops To Remain Resilient, Carry Nigeria Through Difficult Time

**Jos, Plateau State** – The former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and former Ambassador to Benin Republic, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), has praised the current COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for ensuring continuity and introducing new innovations within the Nigerian Army.

Buratai extended his commendation to his other predecessors, including Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (Rtd), recognizing their efforts in sustaining the progress of the Army during their tenures.

This commendation was made during his visit to the Historical Exhibition Stand, part of the 2024 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) activities in Jos, Plateau State. Joining other top military officials, Buratai reflected on the advancements and historical significance of the exhibits.

Addressing the audience, Buratai remarked, “Let me correct this, it’s not up to 80% of the innovations, but at least we have made a significant impact. I know all the service chiefs have greatly contributed. So what you have seen around, especially this historical section is quite impressive. The innovation side is also very, very interesting.”

He emphasized the importance of leadership continuity, stating, “And it shows the continuity of the military leadership and I want to commend the current Chief of Army Staff, Gen Lagbaja and of course all my predecessors, who had continued with the stride to ensure that the Army maintains the highest standard of discipline, operational capabilities as well as the interventions they have introduced and improved on what one has left.”

Expressing his pride in the Nigerian Army, Buratai added, “I’m very impressed and I am happy, I’m proud of the Nigerian Army and I’m proud of the officers and men.”

Additionally, Buratai commended the soldiers for their unwavering dedication and sacrifices over the years, urging them to continue preserving Nigeria through challenging times. He stated, “I want to say congratulations, despite storms, it has not been an easy one, they have toiled, suffered and made sacrifices. So, let them persevere and remain resilient, and strong and also maintain the highest standards of discipline so that they will carry this country through this difficult time. They will surely succeed.”

The 2024 Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Jos highlighted the Army’s achievements and innovations, reflecting a legacy of resilience and commitment to national security.
